Road safety is a central and top priority for AISCAT (Italian Association of Motorway and Tunnel Concessionaire Companies), rooted in the awareness that only a concrete and shared commitment can lead to the ambitious goal of zero accidents.

For this reason, the Association promotes an integrated approach to safety, based on three key pillars: safe infrastructures, informed road users, and well-trained operators.

In this context, AISCAT is particularly proud to count on a solid and fruitful collaboration with the Italian Traffic Police, a standout institution within our national system that has always played an essential role in safeguarding safety along the Italian motorway network.

The constant presence on the territory, prevention and enforcement activities, emergency response support, and the promotion of educational campaigns – especially those aimed at young people - are just some of the areas in which the Traffic Police demonstrate, on a daily basis, competence, dedication, and the ability to adapt to the evolving challenges of modern mobility.

In this interview, Dr. Santo Puccia, Director of the Traffic Police – interviewed by Dr. Emanuela Stocchi, AISCAT Acting Director General and IBTTA Past President – offers an in-depth look at this successful collaboration and the role of the unit he leads within the Italian motorway system.

He discusses law enforcement efforts, the evolution of operational strategies considering new technologies, and the importance of training and awareness initiatives to ensure increasingly safe and responsible mobility – where road safety becomes deeply rooted in the collective consciousness.

This model of cooperation is unique on an international scale, and AISCAT is proud to promote it as a leading example of excellence and innovation in the field of road safety.
